Show Building

"Entering the pre-show area, we view an animation studio as it looked circa 1930. The queue then passes various rooms representing the different departments of the studio. In the final waiting area, vintage cartoon shorts are projected on a screen."

Both the Walt Disney Studio (1926-1939) and the Glendale Grand Central Air Terminal were considered for the show building exterior, due to their respective importance in animation and aviation history. The Disney Studio was ultimately chosen.

Ride System

"The skies darken as a storm looms ahead. Lightning strikes all around causing the plane to lose control and careen towards the ground. The plane barely misses structures and treetops until we safely land back in the barnyard."

In order to achieve the exhilarating and thrilling airplane flight through and above the cartoon world, a suspended coaster utilizing linear induction is used. This allows for the freedom of movement and quick acceleration needed for each ride vehicle.

  • Pre-show/queue. Vintage cartoon posters line the  walls of a circa 1930 animation studio. Artist's cubicles and their drawings fill the room

  • Exiting this room guests enter a barn and board an airplane. The ride starts as the plane rolls from the barn into the barnyard

  • Rolling slowly through the yard, characters are seen busily constructing various types of airplanes. Vintage band music plays

  • As the plane rounds a bend, the engine revs to full speed and the plane is lifted into the air

  • The engine sputters and stalls, and the plane flies through a hen house at the end of the runway

  • Safely reaching altitude, the plane darts in and around clouds

  • Breaking through the clouds, the plane soars high above the farmland below

  • The skies darken as the plane flies into storm clouds; the plane rocks back and forth as lightning strikes. The plane loses control and plummets towards the ground.

  • The plane is narrowly missing structures and treetops

  • Safely landing back in the barnyard, a band is welcoming us home
